Where I find my 3D Models Empty Where I find my 3D Models

    Post by Kurt_Koopa Fri Mar 24, 2023 5:03 pm

I've talked with many and figured this is the best answer to deal with this since even some high-level artists struggle too, and very often the best answer is to find 3D models when you get stuck. There are many places you can find 3D models at. Some need money while some are free but hard to find. I already have a few topics about it, but this one is dedicated to finding those really good 3D models hiding. If I come across more sites, they will go on here. So let's get started cause oh boy. There are a lot of them. Oh and for the record, I will also be including programs too in here since some have their own models hiding on them. Oh and some even have programs inside programs of 3D models.

    ___________________________________________________________________

    Websites with links:

    Model Resource: https://www.models-resource.com/

Great site I must add. A lot of goodies to find on here of gaming models that were ripped. Oh right, and all is free here. Very big ones like Pokemon and Digimon are my big go-to here if I'm looking for character models usually. If something doesn't exist, this is usually where I would look first if Source Film Maker doesn't have it.

    Gumroad: https://gumroad.com/

Another good site to find models. They can be tough a bit tough to find and also quite expensive too. I'd be careful, but you do really get your money's worth if you do take this path of searching for things and hit the jackpot.

    Daz3D: https://www.daz3d.com/

The big guns right here, super banger level of content in this area! Being able to have the ability to purchase and make loads of different morphs, creatures, cartoons, and different body styles to your own lecture with the added of checking out hard-to-make details is absolutely a banger here. This is normally my go-to when working with models because there is so much you can get out of this. Oh and on top of that an easy clothing system with D-force to help with drape effects as well as tools and props for landscapes. Daz3D pretty much does it all. My downside to this is that it is a big boy and only wants Nivida Graphic Card. It's so huge, in fact, that once you have passed the 4,000 models area. Chances are this eats out your space and you'll need a 2TB external hard drive or even more. On top of that, a lot of the content can be found on other sites too, so don't be scared to look around if the money damage is too much.

    Flippednormals: https://flippednormals.com/

This one is pretty good as well. There can be some good models found here, but it also is in the same boat as Gumroad. There are also some very handy tools on here as well to check out. So another one that shouldn't be ignored.

    Sketchfab: https://sketchfab.com/

You don't have to download anything, Sketchfab is on here for that alone. You can't really pose the creatures you find on there, but you can easily pull up a character and check out their anatomy in 3D is very often good enough giving you plenty to work with and be able to view it all in 3D. On top of that, there are a lot of models on there that have to be talked about alone. Some even have animations to help show you the movement and works of that creature too.

    HeroForge: https://www.heroforge.com/intro/

This one's okay. A good place to gather lots of information with 3D sorts, but you can't download anything unless you purchase the sculptures which are very often expensive as hell. In my opinion, don't and just use it as base references. Keep in mind the models can be rotated, but cannot be rotated in all directions.

    Programs:

    Blender: https://www.blender.org/

Here and there Blender pops up. Blender got goodies and it cannot be ignored on that front. Very often I find Blender being a modeling program to being able to view models. This is also best used for Model Resource and just many stuff. Easy to use once you got a general idea too.

Where to find models: Almost everywhere really. It's the best way to open Obj files and even FBX files if things don't work in other tools.

    Daz3D: https://www.daz3d.com/

Where to find Models: Quite a handful to say.

    https://www.most-digital-creations.com/freestuff.htm

Already explained it up top. Really good stuff, don't ignore it if you're looking for stuff to push your work out harder.

    Clip Studio: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/

Where to find models: Check out the assets store once finished downloading. It will be a link on the main page before you even open Clip Studio.

Clip Studio has many models that can be found on their site, however, you have to purchase those models as well as the program in order to have access to them. They only work in Clip Studio sadly. You cannot get them off of that site or program. They're very handy, but I say they're not always the best. Very handy tools though, so don't be scared to take a peak in. Just keep in mind when you do buy those models or tools, they may come in Japanese so be sure you take your time when organizing the names so you don't lose track of them.

    Designdoll: https://terawell.net/en/index.php

    Where to find models: https://doll-a.net/terawell/

I don't often use Designdoll a whole lot, but here and there I've come back to this program as it does have some super handy tools to help with cartoon stuff. If you have purchased the program, you have a large range of models to use now, but the problem I stumbled upon when playing with this is how hard it is to find what you're exactly looking for. Big suggestions to search for would be "Sonic" or "Anime" in the search, but play around and you can find some super goodies on here to help. Easy program to use by the way, and you can export Obj files out and toss them into programs like Daz3D/Blender if needed.

    Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/about/

Source Film Maker and Garry's Mod

Another usual go-to I use, all models here are free and often have good artists (especially J.C. Thornton and Kabal the Mystic-Man) that make content on there very daily. Be sure you purchase Garry's mod as a lot of the content there can also be passed over to Source Film Maker. I put these two together because they pretty much share a workshop with each other. This is another great one as a lot of 3D artists make content for this and should not be ignored.

Where to find Models: Check out the workshops on steam and also check out https://sfmlab.com/

( You can also find models on Deviantart as well too if you look hard enough as well as Gumroad too. )

    VRChat: https://hello.vrchat.com/

This one is a weird yet good one actually (Thankfully you don't need a VR headset to do this.) VRchat normally uses Unity 19 as a system to upload models. This one I'm just now recently getting myself into it. It actually has a program on the site where it'll download your unity software. You can use VRchat itself to look at the models, but I find it cheaper to use Unity to view the models instead. Which again gives you more visuals of checking out models and stuff.

You can also find models on VRchat itself.
